Jacksonville, Florida Chicken Owners NEEDED! - Page 2

I almost never post and just saw this thread. I know it's not timely, but I do have chix in a neighborhood, here in Jacksonville. I am concerned about exposing myself to legal repercussions. The Neighborhoods Commission is already too big for its britches. I'm not sure we should give it another axe to grind.

I also live within the Jacksonville city limits and have two chickens - but don't want to expose myself for fear of Zoning Laws.  It's hard enough to keep the children quiet about things; I don't need to announce it in the Times-Onion!  big_smile

I will say that I have a neighbor with 3 large, loud Macaws and another with two very yappy American Spitz dogs.....   My two hens are blissfully quiet compared to the other pets!

I'm also in the city limits and need to keep my mouth closed.  My neighbors who know I have the girls LOVE them.  One neighbor delights in throwing left over spaghetti noodles to them.  Another loves taking them her weeds.  Still another enjoys bringing her grands down to see what a "real" chicken looks like.  However, I like the fact that they're not "out in the open".  I would sorely miss my girls if I were found out and told to find them a new home.
I would speak anonymously, but that's not what reporters want....

I live in St Augustine Beach and am trying to get the ordinance changed here.  I tried looking at the Jax municipal code and found no restriction regarding chickens.  You might check it out and then proceed as if they're legal, which I think they are.  I do need help with finding chicken owners in this area who have fust a few hens.  I'd like to videotape to show to the commissioners that this is doable.  Please let me know if you can be of assist.     nana@nrdp.net

In Jacksonville, FL, it is against city statute for us to keep chickens. BUT, there is a petition going around to change that.  You can also sign it online.

johnstrifler4senate.proboards.com I love eggs, not much for the meat but my wife loves it. So i to would love to own some chickens but can not do to laws but some times you have to bend them to change them. Please check out my profile page and hit me up, please.

US Government from the federal level down to the city level, must be controlled by the free people of these United States and not by the rich and powerful, who want nothing more than to better their own pockets and make the poor pay for it all. I speak from experience. The media do nothing but manipulate the minds of the weak into doing their bidding.

I'm not in Jacksonville, but am in Florida. Down in Citrus county, and working at a farm that is looking for a few good cluckers. At current count, there are 30 hens, but we'd like to double that for the egg production. Anyone have a suggestion?big_smile
