Egg bound?

My chicken was very lathargic. I picked her up and egg yellow squirted out her vent. I took her in. Applied warm compress and within a minute she passed a rubber egg. How do I know if there are eggshells in her??

How is your hen?

If she passed the egg shell (rubber egg) then most likely she doesn't have an hard egg shell in her.

Provide her with some extra calcium - you can crush a Tums or give liquid Calcium (1cc or whatever your bottle says) and give her some poultry vitamins.

One of mine was somewhat like this the other night. I found her in the nesting box sitting in egg yolk. She wasn't lethargic, but had part of the egg membrane hanging out. I cleaned her up the best I could and then placed her on the roost next to her friend. The next day I got her off the roost, gave calcium and vitamins, when I put her down, she expelled the rest of the membrane. Later in the day when it was warmer, I soaked her in an epsom salts bath - cleaned up her messy bum and gave her a little more vitamins and fed her some hard boiled egg (blow dried her wet feathers). She has laid 2 nice eggs since and is doing well.

She's acting normal. She passed white liquid after letting her out and I just checked after an hour and there was another clear white puddle of poop with just a bit of green. She was going in the nest box. I added vitamins to their water this morning. I'm wondering if this is egg peritonitis. I did see the white diarrhea like substance before and it was right before she started laying which is now about two weeks ago.
 
I went out and checked. She was in the box and the egg song started. Except there was no egg. I will get some calcium and later try warm compresses on the vent if she hasn't laid. She hates the whole bath idea.
 
It's possible she could have an internal laying/reproductive disorder like Peritonitis.

Just to help "rule out" that it's not nutritional/vitamin deficiency offer oyster shell free choice to laying hens. Adding vitamins to the water once a week won't hurt either.

I'm glad she is moving about. Time will tell if it's just a glitch or something more serious.

Glad to hear she laid a nice egg for you. Sometimes new layers can have a rubber egg or two. If it continues then you will want to investigate further.
