New at gardening/starting seeds indoors

Work some aged chicken poop into your gardening soil and that should instantly improve it.  I have my existing raised beds in the chicken run and they've been scratching at the soil and composting for me since fall, so it should be good and ready for seeds as soon as the mornings aren't frosty.

I definitely think I bought too many seeds too.  I kept thinking of everything that would be nice to try, and suddenly I had over a dozen in the online cart.  Plus I still have seeds from my fall plantings and I got some more from the home improvement store.  Hoping to grow two types of peppers (shishito and mini bells), two or three types of tomatoes, several different greens, peas, carrot, corn, cabbage, lettuce, zucchini, onion, radish, some herbs.  Maybe some more strawberries too - I don't eat too many of them but the chickens and one of my dogs loves them. I plan on staggering the plantings so I don't get hit by a massive amount of plants maturing all at the same time.

Lavender is really nice, I love the smell.  I have some boring azaleas bordering the house so I might replace them all with lavender at some point.

Sorry, I forgot to reply! But that's a good idea. Thank you.

And yeah, i have way too many lol

UGH so Luna has eaten almost all my spinach plants! She doesn't seem to have touched them the last couple days though but still.

But now we have a new problem!

I just got home from the grocery store to find the stupid ****** SITTING IN THE PLANT TRAY!!!! I was wondering why some of those were flattened.... I yelled at her and chased her out.

I am really starting to hate this cat.....

I mean, I could never hate her truly because she's MY cat and she's the sweetest cat... but seriously.... I am getting really really mad!!!

Lesson learned. If there's a cat in the house, it's a must do to block access to the seedling trays, as cats LOVE nothing more than to lay down in a freshly planted seedling tray. My cat used to do that, and then, to add insult to injury, she'd very meticulously pluck all the green shoots that managed to survive out with her teeth and drop them on the floor.

Very true. She did it again and I yelled at her but I feel bad for doing that because it's not really her fault. It's a nice warm, comfy, spot to lay and in the sun.. i should know it would be alluring. And it's my job to block access. So... no more yelling at her and sorry for the very angry post and bad words/yelling.. now that I have calmed down.. how exactly do I block access?

Here are pictures of the area. You're not supposed to have the dome on after they sprout, right? So how else can I block it?

But look at them :hit part of that is her and part of that is them stretching for the sun but any idea on how to support them? Should I even do that? They were all thriving

And new plan, take the spare heating pad I am no longer using for the herbs and make her her own warm place to lay haha

I have a 3 shelf mini green house frame that I put in the window, and then wrap it with tin foil to help reflect more sun back onto the plants. No cat worries now, cause no cat.

It takes creativity. This spring, I'll be running the furnace, so down stairs will be warm enough for me to use grow lights. I'd not be starting much in the house without those grow lites.

That's a good idea! Doesn't the foil make it dark though or no? Maybe I'll make one of those. I guess having it on a low table with a cat is the worst possible place to put them haha but there's been no issues until recently.

And good thinking on the grow lite. Maybe I will get one. Are they expensive? And I'm assuming that would solve the issue of them stretching towards the window for sun? But should I support them with something? and when if ever do I transfer them?

She's so cute it's hard to be mad at her..... but I seriously need to get working on a way to block access lol I just hope all the plants aren't dead :(

And I keep trying to straighten them out/stand them up and accidentally pulling some out :(
