This chick is acting totally normal, but it's crop looks excessively big to me. I find it harder to tell when there is a problem with the showgirls since it's already so prominent by being bare. But it is bigger than the other chicks.

Yes, she is acting very normal. She's the runt of the bunch. I had my first sour crop a week or so ago in an older bird and that one was very out of it and lethargic, that's why I wasn't sure with this one.

The first time we had a chick with a huge crop and not many feathers hiding it as usual... was very shocking to see a giant lump sticking out of the right side of the tiny chicks chest. And today he is happy and healthy!

It's always good to get a second opinion if you aren't sure... better safe than sorry, in any situation. But this one sounds good.

Good to be on the look out for potential issues.

There was something wrong with her crop. It never would completely empty and she wasn't growing. I found her passed away today.

She wasn't doing too great from the beginning, so I can't say her death came as a surprise. The only surprise was that she lived this long.

Yes, that is part of chicken keeping.

We had 2 chicks from our recent hatch fail after a week but we knew both were going to way before that. We still tried though. My husband isn't comfortable with that part. But the joys far outweigh the disappointment. And it's been such a learning experience.

Being around the animals has impacted my teen daughters life in ways that are evident!

Wish I could share that with many more kids.

Best wishes!

It has definitely been a learning experience. I've had chickens for going on 5 years now. This chicken and one a couple weeks ago were my first crop problems. Always something new. But it has been good having the animals.
