I can't imagine trying to conquer the Orpington type and fluff all over again! That sounds rough. I think there were some folks i used to know up north breeding ameraucanas or EEs to RC leghorns. That was actually a petty good cross. The blue egg gene certainly did disappear fast! It would be interesting to repeat the process Buddy did with a good lavender ameraucana and have a totally separate RC lavender leghorn line.

OH--just remembered...someone in the PNW - maybe the Seattle area was interested in Rose Comb (Or maybe he was in Eastern Washington or Oregon where the weather is rougher. He had prize winning browns and preferred Rosecomb - because of Frostbite.
He was a terriffic breeder of beautiful birds. Won prizes in shows, had high standards and worked with cattle (dairy) as a day job -- His name escapes me now....but I know someone I can ask about it.

Moonshiner -- beautiful birds.... HaikuHeritageFarms and I are cooking up a thread for Lav discussion. When we launch it -- could you repost? The cockerel in that group is a really BEAUTIFULLY colored bird. Are his neck-hackles gold based. OH wait -- lets move that discussion over to the new thread.....I'll ask BYC to close this one down so it can be a specific repository for breading and genetics of LPID-B project birds to maybe save confusing folks.
Once we're up and running with the new one, I'll post a link here to jump to that thread...and we can delve into stuff --like how that guy's plumage (the female too) is so beautiful. Can't wait for our new chapters in our adventures.

That was Michael Baker. When he was on BYC his handle was flyingmonkeypoop (you can search that name and find a lot of great posts). He was the president of the Cream Legbar Club in 2014. My understanding is that he just recently sold his rosecomb Legbars breeding stock. The new owner are already advertising their intent to mass produces then with hopes to sell thousands of chicks in the spring. I hope Michael sold them for $500+ a bird. He put a lot of work into them.
