Amazing Rooster: Behavior & Colors. What is it?

What an AWESOME BIRD!!! ....personality, color & type, His posture is stunning and looks to have a good width betw nice straight legs. If he was mine i'd try some line-breeding to try and fix those characteristics in my flock. I could envision him with a group of hens feathered like his breast feathers - are some of his female offspring like that? Thanks for the pics, I come to BYC for a "rooster fix" when i'm missing the boys i had to re-home bc i live in town. One of them had that same ability to keep the peace, even at a young age, both were lucky to get "jobs" as flock roos.
Yes, the girls are as bright in colors and the drawings. However the tail feathers are much shorter (of course) but also bright white. The only thing what can different is the leg colors and comb. I had last year 5 eggs from him incubated and gave them to other people around in the neighborhood. I am going to visit them to see how they turned out completely grown up. I might try to find some chicks with same characteristics in colors and drawings.

Do you guys have any idea what chicks I should pick?

thnx again!

Marty

Can you borrow one or 2 of last years offspring if they are still in the neighborhood so you could get him in a breeding pen this year? Hatch as many as you can and keep them til you can evaluate. This is a smart guy that has successfully free-ranged for 2 years, but life is risky. Wishing you the best with your 'King of the Clan'! If you do get some of his babies, please, PLEASE post.:pop

I know for sure that I can have 1 chick temporarily, and also another one probably. The other 3 have different combs and/or leg colors.
However, the 2 "right" baby chicks with the same coloring and color settings came from a Chick I still have. So I will see if i can borrow the 2 daughters, and also see if I can get some eggs from the mum.

Question: How will it influence the genetic health of the future baby chicks if The rooster is crossed with his daughters?
Or is 1 or 2 times not a problem?

If I would get more chicks from the original mum and the rooster, I could also back cross it?

Gets complicated, but I got to many messages for people who would be interested. I am not a money breeder, just truly enjoying my chicks. Please advice and help, And I will surely try to get some same colored off springs.

I will post later this week a picture of the Mama and see if I can pick up the 2 (fiscally same colored, style, drawings) chickens.

By the way: If you noticed the 2 white large dots o the rooster his shoulders? All the baby chicks have the same white dots.

Your rooster would have a single comb with that cross. Yours has an in between comb, probably pea crossed with a single. That's why I think your rooster has Easter egger or Americana.

YESSS! He looks like a Orpington in an OEG suit, haha, but what about the comb? Its a pea comb? Don't think you will encounter health problems breeding(you have to name him, or is it 'King"?) to his daughters for 1 or 2 generations. Remember, he is a total package temperment, type and color. Some of his 1st gen off-spring, while not exactly the same pattern, may show enough of his other qualities to be worth breeding. You have seen he is able to pass on the coloration pretty reliably. Breeders talk about building the barn, then painting it.

His name is Red.
These Chicks are wearing me out. I have been on the computer since last night. Got a hernia from sitting!
;-)
I will come back later this week. And thank you very much for all your great + nice comments + help.

Hopefully we get some great looking roosters. But most of all: I enjoy my Chicks without my wife getting upset!
Talk To You Later

I think he's probably a mix of mixes.

something I do find interesting is him having both white and blue. That's not a very usual combination.

I can see Orpington, probably, from the white skin and overall massive size and shape. What else could be there, not sure.

But I agree, if he's that good tempered, breed from him and continue that line.
