Poultry lice

Does anyone know the life cycle of poultry lice? I treated with permethrin a week ago, then again today. I've also heard to do 10 days after initial treatment. Do I need to do a third treatment?

The life cycle is about 7-10 days.
I'd wait and see...wait a week or two and take good look to see if there are any still moving around.
 
Idenify your pest first.I had northern foul mites. I treated with permethrin 10% 1 oz in 1.5 gal water according to directions for directly on poultry it kills on contact. I then sprayed entire coop also. I will check in about 10 days .

Permethrin spray has good residual action, so examine your birds very carefully before treating them again. The permethrin dust doesn't have the same residual time, so repeat treatments are needed. Then it depends on the flock exposure to the little critters, in other words, the parasite burden on the wild birds they interact with. Mary
 
Thanks Mary i still have about 3 days before i check northern foul mites are supposedly a cool weather pest and the mild winter here in Arkansas is probably a factor We have pretty warm summers here maybe that will deter them Have a nice afternoon

So I checked them yesterday and all were clear except two. One had the eggs still all over near her vent and another one just had a few. Does the permethrin 10 kill the eggs too? Will they just fall off? I didn't see any moving bugs.

Most insecticides don't kill eggs, but residuals will kill the little beasts when they hatch out. Let us know how things work out! Mary

I can confirm this... the rooster I treated for lice several weeks ago still has no lice, so the spray really must have excellent residual action, much better than the powder.
