Need Ideas for Predator Defense Around Run.

I am new to keeping chickens, but have read a bit about building coops and runs. I was thinking to "flash" the run fence and ground with CW buried beneath the dirt... Does anyone have experience with this method? Does it work? I was also considering digging a 12" deep hole under my run gate and fill it with large rocks/cinder block then smooth it over with dirt. I figure predators that attempt to dig under will only encounter rocks to dig through. Good/Bad idea? Thoughts? I this would work since I can hardly use the same "flashing" method as I plan to use on the fence.

I have a wire skirt, as do a lot of others. I did not bury mine. It is stapled to the ground using garden staples and once the plants grow through it is is very hard to pull up. I recommend using at least 3' wire and running it up the side of the run and out 2'. If the sides of the run are hardwire you can get away with not running it up the side as far. I had issues with digging predators when I first got started and the skirt has kept them at bay (well, that and a rifle).

ETA some parts of the run are on top of buried concrete pieces from a sidewalk that we tore up from the front of our house. Rocks would work but I would use bigger heavier rocks if possible.
