We don't have fox's here, but we do have stoats and possums, I had a possum going frantic for two hrs trying to get into my house when it could smell my eggs hatching in the incubator. it was insane. The dog chased it a couple of times and it came back. He eventually was dispatched.

Then to my absolute horror, my little bantams had been killed by a stoat, I know it was a stoat as I have farmed for thirty yrs, I also had a stoat kill half a dozen pheasant chicks that where 6 wks old, they just kill everying.

That terrible. How does possum smell egg hathcing in house.

Maybe pen the stoats so they cant eat chicks. I heard one time that livestock will eat babes if they can, extra protien or somethin. See if they need something better to eat.

Yeah, I had to shoot a mink yesterday. Very determined. Chased it off when it was on my cockerel then ran inside to find my gun. By the time I got back out it had taken the hen and did not want to leave at all. Certainly would have come back until they were all gone so needed to be dispatched.

Stouts are hard. So small they can get into just about anything. I take my chances in daylight with them and rely on the coop being secured, hardware cloth on vent openings, for night protection when they are most likely to be coming around.

LOL okay, thats funny

This summer I was raising 24 chicks and had them out of the incubator into their little chicken coop.. Completely sealed with a draw bridge and door.. problem is, we didn't lock it up that night.. I come out to find a HUGE opossum starling at me, covered in blood, 2 babies in front of him dead.. I locked the ******* in the coop (all the birds ran out), ran into the house frantic, yelled for my wife and grabbed my RWS. Shot him and got out the snow shovel and the thing was so big his head and front legs were off the one side and his hind and rear legs were off the other.. It must have been 35lbs..

Nothing more frightening than being 24" from a bloody snarling opossum and not expecting it.
