Hello, everyone:
I'll have to make a straightforward description of my problem:
1. Initially, 9 hens for one rooster. Let's call this one rooster "The RATTPO" (which stands for the Rooster At The Top Of Pecking Order).
2. Four little chicks were hatched.. hard to find out which ones were males and females until four weeks later then I had a better clue..Three males and just one female (Black Copper Maran girl).
3. I had to put 2 males to sleep around 3 weeks ago. I then preserved one male and one female.. both Black Copper Maran..which at this point would be over 11 weeks old. The young rooster started chasing every single hen around the yard constantly, which were obviously ferociously defended by the RATTPO that would end up driving the young rooster away.
4. Young rooster would remain very close to the young hen (born along with him same day same mother).
5. Today at noon, I found young hen dead under the chicken coop. We have two dogs (Great Pyrenees). And I refuse to think or believe that one of them killed her. Nope. They couldn't do that..in fact, I looked for any signs on the young hen dead body indicating damage caused by dogs and I found none. So, I have the suspicion that the young rooster killed my Black Copper Maran young hen by overmating her as he did not have any other hen available (as I stated before, the rest of the flock were very protected by RATTPO.
Question is : How likely is that this Young Black Copper Maran Rooster killed his sister? If you guys notice, I just typed in "Young Black Copper Maran Rooster", capital letter at the beginning of each word. That's because I want to honor him somehow before I do away with him in less than 24 hours. That's my plan, despite that I am a good man in many aspects...but this rooster has just stepped out of the line.

Any feedback on this concern will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. At such a young age, its a bit early for a cockerel to start acting in such a manner. He sounds like he's going to be nothing but trouble (not withstanding which bird killed your pullet). Just my opinion, but I would not keep such a cockerel. Whilst they can calm down once they mature - its going to be a long, and possibly futile wait.

I hope that others may have a more positive spin on things.

Best wishes
