Our chicks arrived today! Picked up my three sons (age 8, 7, & 7) from school and welcomed them to the family!

We ordered 6 Australorps (as well as 3 leghorn and 3 jersey giants for a friend). The 6 extra are leaving soon.

We are excited. My boys are ready to take care of them. Looking forward to great memories.

Welcome!

How exciting! They are adorable! Best wishes to you and your little ones.

I recommend a visit to the Learning Centre; lots of good tips there: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

Were the chicks marked as to breed? I understand young Jersey Giants & Black Australorps look very similar. You might want to ask at "what breed or gender is this," how to tell them apart. I believe the underside of their feet are different colors.

Kids and chickens go together perfectly, you're in for a lot of fun!

I've done some research on how to tell them apart. I think we've got it already and will probably zip tie them to tag them. They do look VERY similar. Luckily, one of the three JGs is a rooster, so we'll know for sure!

Thanks for the links and welcomes!
