Hello all, i am brand new to this site but from recent google searches i was able to obtain some info from BYC so i decided to join up. A question i have is i just got into the chicken raising and have ten chics. At what point are they able to leave their brood box (7 sq ft) and move to the coop that i have built for them. Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you

! Pleased you joined our flock! Great question - I think it is generally recommended that chicks can leave the brooder and be without a heat source somewhere around the 4-6 week range. That may alter somewhat depending on your climate. That and other chick questions can be answered in the wonderful articles in the following section of the Learning Center: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-and-raising-chicks
Best wishes and enjoy your poultry journey!!

I have 8 rhode island reds and two little black ones that are a cross breed of a rhode island red and i cant remember what else. I just remember they are suppose to be good laying chickens

I would guess those are black sex links...they are good layers!

That sounds right. Im glad they are good layers. Im really excited about this process. I have built them a really nice coop with a run and plan on letting them do a little free range. Im a little nervous but just want to do everything possible to give them all the best chance for the greatest success
