My first hatch of Crested Cream Legbars. I thought I could tell sex on each, but now not so sure. Opinions please?

The whole group:

Possible boys:

This one has dark stripes with brown hue and eye liner. I would guess female, but there is a small yellow dot on her head?

Chick3 male/female??

Male 1?

Chick5:Male 2?

Chick 4: Male?

The other chicks (2,6,7) I am fairly certain are females, correct?

Thanks everyone in advance!

4 out of 7 is pretty good for pullets. Seems when I hatch I get more cockerels than pullets.

I think the same thing too. Theoretically I figured it should be 50-50 which never seems to happen. Then I've read in several poultry articles that the ratio is 50-55% males to 45-50% females and often in it 55%-45%, although no explanation has been given. I swear some hatches I'm closer to 75-25 and I've already had all boy hatches.

My husband is trying to convince me to buy pullet peeps this year.

Ah!!! All boy hatches, oh how terrible. I am worried enough about finding homes for these little boys. Hatching is so much fun, but I can see your husband's point too.

One the upside if you want you can butcher some of the boys. I tried it last year, I usually just give them away for yard birds. But I had a ton of boys last year and decided to dress a few of them. And I was surprised! Around 4 month old Legbar cockerels really make pretty good fryers. A lot more meat on them than I expected. They are actually really nice eating birds.

I was actually thinking about doing that. We processed a young Wyandotte cockerel last year who was mean. The meat was tasty. I would prefer to raise these than the CornishX which I find pretty disgusting.
