I am new with ducks , and made the mistake to get 10 ducklings all at once , All of the ducklings are straight run Pekins that I got from a year around selling website. The ducklings are around 3-4 weeks old and should be getting their water oils and white feathers soon. I keep the ducks at my friends farm since I live in town and visit them around 3 times a week , I've been noticing that they are some that open their beaks like their going to make a noise but it just comes out as a little breath I'm keeping them in a warm area with a heat lamp but it is winter and I'm concerned. They also make some almost quick noise that sounds like a chuff for some reason , I don't think they are sick but they might be sneezing, I don't know , like I said this is my first time with dealing with such a messy animals that can get sick easily , plz help ?!

Ducklings are born with their oil glands, to help them work them early they should be getting water/swim time by a week old... how warm is their area, do they have cool area to move out of the heat if they need to? At 3-4 weeks, their warmest spot needs to only be 75-80°F, tops... maybe their nares are clogged? Do they have a deep dish water source that they can dunk their entire head into? They need to be able to blow out their nares and rinse their eyes to stay healthy... do they have weepy or crusty eyes? Any rasping while breathing? Runny nares?

Pics would help assess their health and living requirements...

Well right now I have to take 4 of the ducklings with me to an event and they are at my house in a big container with a heat lamp and their feeder and water , we also put on the heat around 70-80 degrees in the house. They are making some weird sounds they are in my bathroom and it is kind of humid , so I don't know if all the ducklings are doing it but ever since I took the 4 ducklings home they have been making weird noises. It might be that its hot , I just turned of the heat lamp so that might be it ,at first the weird opening of they're mouths looked how a baby bird would act whenever it's hungry , but they have food , they are breathing really fast and they sound like there out of breath , it could be that its because they are usually in a barn with a heat lamp and not a humid bathroom with a heat lamp. Here are the picture of were they located and another of what they look like but with motions.

They need a container deep enough to dunk their heads into so they can clean out their nares I gave you a link in your other thread it has a cheap way of making a drinking container for ducklings. They maybe over heated too that container maybe big to you but it isn't for them and the heat lamp maybe making them too hot @NewDuckPerson

Yes, they are way too warm and need to wet their heads....Pop them into the bath tub and take away the heat lamp....

Best wishes.....

If you do put them in a tub of water make sure it's warm not cold right out of the tap. and don't let them chill. They are still babies.

Oops, your so right Miss Lydia....I forgot to mention warm water and not let them get cold....you could use the heat lamp till they dry.....:)

Used to hang my heat lamp from the cabinet door above toilet (which is right next to the tub) during bath time and aim it at the tub so that when the water started to cool down, the duckies still had some heat. Depending on how far away your outlet is, you might find this helpful. In my experience, the warm water tends to cool down to room temperature pretty fast. They can play a little longer this way. Also when I got them out of the tub and put them on the counter in a box, I would then angle the heat lamp over he box while they dried off. That way no one ran the risk of chills.

My ducks used to do this panting as well, just move the heat lamp further away, offer more water, and they'll stop
