Weird "seeds" in my egg????

I went to enjoy some homegrown eggs this morning when this one had these tiny little white seeds in it. I trashed the egg thinking they looked like bug eggs but then I thought maybe they were excess calcium from the shell?? Any thoughts??

Did you touch them...to see if they were hard or soft or...?
Not likely bug eggs.
Did it come from a new layer?
 
I didn't touch them. They came from a seasoned layer. She's 2 this spring. I do feed them layer feed so it probably is excess calcium. I have been seeing the calcium pebble type buildup on the shells recently too. I'll have to watch her eggs and see if it happens again.

Did she just start laying again after molt/winter break?
Not sure where you are located...putting your location in your profile can help folks give better answers.suggestions.
New layer and those going out of and coming back into lay can have some funky eggs.

Calcium bumps on egg, inside or out, is not necessarily caused by excess calcium in the diet......
......but often how an individual bird processes the calcium they eat.

Look at complete diet...all of what you feed.
 
For once I will disagree with aart. Since switching off of layer 2 years ago I haven't seen any extra calcium deposits on my eggs. When on layer some eggs would have lumps and bumps on them. I prefer the hens consume the extra calcium as needed not force fed through layer. Of course this is only my experiences and isn't scientific proof. I no longer feed layer and my chickens seem healthy for it, but who knows maybe it's just my brand.

We feed pretty much the same (20% and OS on the side) but I've had 2 birds that consistently laid eggs with calcium bumps on them.

Well than I guess I don't disagree with you.

It is definitely good to know, as well as interesting.
 
I have had exactly the same problem for months with a 2 year old Orpington. The calcium spots are on the outside of the egg and then this strip of 'seeds' like this in the yolk. They are hard to touch. I will have to try changing the feed. Thanks for this info I haven't been able to find anything on this previously.
