Any Chicken ladies out there pregnant? kind of a weird question, but I know I can't clean my cat's litter box, but never asked my doc about the chicken coop. Does anyone know the answer? Thanks in advance

Welcome to BYC!

I'm not sure... Can you call your doctor?

Welcome to BYC I am really not sure? is it because you could catch something and pass it to the baby that you can't do the cat box? I must admit I never thought about any of that when I was pregnant (which was a long long time ago) I just carried on as normal as we lived in the back and beyond in those days nearest neighbour was 30k's away.

I think you should ask a doc.

Congrats anyway do you know what you are having?

I didn't read any of the other links but with toxoplasma, you are actually rather safe to scoop a litter box if you do it every day rather than once a week or longer. Toxo takes about four days to mature in the poop into its infective stage. Additionally, the chances that a healthy, older (adult) cat would be carrying toxo is rather low.

Other animals can apread toxo including ruminants (sheep and goats) and I've heard chickens can potentially be carriers as well. However, the same rules would apply (clean daily, wear a mask, etc).
