So, we are going to be moving out to some land we own in a few years to start a homestead and want to not only have a large flock of chickens, but would like some other kind of fowl as well. They, while we could get the eggs from them, would mostly be for meat. I was thinking about guineas, but after hearing about how ridiculously loud they are, I'm rethinking it. They would be free range and far away from the house, but it sounds like even then they would be too loud. The biggest benefits I was wanting from guineas specifically are, keep predators at bay/alarm, and keeping ticks down. Plus I've heard they are very tasty. Would another kind of bird be better or just as good at these things or are guineas good to go with? I was thinking about turkeys but I know very little about them. I wouldn't mind ducks, but I don't know if they would have these 2 specific benefits, of predator control and tick/bug control. Is there another bird that would be good for that as well as meat? Guineas sound like they would work well, but the noise conserns me because we would have quite a few. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
