Guineas vs. other birds?

So, we are going to be moving out to some land we own in a few years to start a homestead and want to not only have a large flock of chickens, but would like some other kind of fowl as well. They, while we could get the eggs from them, would mostly be for meat. I was thinking about guineas, but after hearing about how ridiculously loud they are, I'm rethinking it. They would be free range and far away from the house, but it sounds like even then they would be too loud. The biggest benefits I was wanting from guineas specifically are, keep predators at bay/alarm, and keeping ticks down. Plus I've heard they are very tasty. Would another kind of bird be better or just as good at these things or are guineas good to go with? I was thinking about turkeys but I know very little about them. I wouldn't mind ducks, but I don't know if they would have these 2 specific benefits, of predator control and tick/bug control. Is there another bird that would be good for that as well as meat? Guineas sound like they would work well, but the noise conserns me because we would have quite a few. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My guineas were horrible! All in all they did not really help with predators, and I can not be sure on keeping the ticks down as at the time I had guineas I also had 50 chickens. If I was to ever get anything in terms of protecting the flock I would probably own some geese. Everyone's opinion is different though. I think you should try the guineas for a while just to see

Huh, geese, I never thought of that! I'll have to look into that. Yeah I read from a lot of articles about how great the guineas are, but the more I hear from actual people who have had them, I'm thinking I may wanna go with something different. I might get a few just to test it, but they would be on the outskirts of the land. Thanks!

I've had a flock of 12 guineas and most of mine are the Jumbo French which were developed as a meat bird. They are about 1/3 larger than the regular domestics. They also don't fly up in the trees, are calmer and quieter. You might want to consider this variety, but I would say get at least 10. They are VERY strong flock birds and will actually do better when there are more of them. I started with 16, but we lost some to predators. That will happen with free ranging them. They will travel about 1/2 mile end to end and when they are happy, they just chortle. I haven't found the noise to be much of an issue. They're on about 10 acres around our house and travel to our neighbors. We have enjoyed having them - they're very entertaining to watch and we get the extra bonus of tick and insect control.

That's awesome! I had heard of the Jumbo French but didn't know too much about them. I really would like to try the guineas but I have heard so much about the noise. We'll be on a lot of land so if I get these Jumbo's, I doubt it'll be too much of an issue. Though I may get a few geese too just to have some bigger birds. Lol I think chicken math applies to not only chickens but all birds. And I don't even have any yet! LOL I'll keep doing research. Thank you so much!

We have 6 guineas. They're still caged while we tend to our boundary fences, and are only 20 or so metres from the house. Their noise doesn't bother us in the slightest.
