Hello,I am getting ready to advance into raising quail,I would like to incubate eggs. My question is,What would be a good Cold hardy breed and what breed typically lays eggs well?
Yrs. Ago I hatched a few bobwhites but a few didn't make it past 3-4 days. I am researching and reading now to see what I can do for better success. Thank you.

We have started with Coturnix quail. Just getting started, but they are quick growing, placid, lay a lot, and cold hardy if you give them proper shelter.

Yep coturnix are your best bet they usually lay an egg a day even in cold weather I live in Michigan so I know there pretty darn hardy. They are not flighty well can't really fly at all and they are very tame birds.not to mention they are full grown in 8 weeks and start laying at 8 weeks too.
