Hi there! I want to know the precaution/prevention of some tiny insect that affected my hen sometimes ago during brooding. It was very tiny I don't know its name but I did not see it the time I tried to pick the egg. I saw the hen outside the nest I wonder its almost time to start hatching when i saw the hen roaming about. I went and saw some tiny things on the eggs i just picked one of the egg to observe not knowing that the invisible insect was what chased the hen out of the nest. I felt something moving on my body I had to bath with hot water before i stop feeling their movement on me. So, I want to take precautions as my turkey hen started laying and in a couple of days it will start brooding. What brings about such insects?

Mites would be my guess! They are super tiny little dots that you can sometimes see on the eggs if a bird has a lot of them.

Sevin dust or a Permithrin power (Garden dust/Poultry dust...our local feed store sells it) will take care of mites & lice. Check around the vent of your hen and you might see them crawling around. Dust around the vent area and under each wing and then re-apply in about 4-5 days. Also clean out the coop and remove the bedding. Dust around the nest boxes and floor before adding clean shavings.

Chickens are pretty simple, but I've never tried to dust a turkey before. That should be fun!
