So my incubator cord came loose at some point this afternoon and when i checked my eggs they were cold. It was 78 in the incubator. It was on at noon. and I checked at 9. Will they all die? i changed the cord and now it has heated back up.

It's sort of iffy now. I'd leave them in the incubator for the next 10 days and see if their growing.some eggs are very resilient. I just hatched silkie eggs and didn't think any would hatch. When I candled them on day seven they looked pretty bad but I could see a little movement in 9 of the eggs.3 were not fertile. So each time I candled them they still didn't look good but I tried to have faith. Great news.8 of them hatched on March 16th. Exactly 21 days. Yippee. I was elated. One is still in the incubator. If it hasn't hatched by Tuesday I'll discard it. All the chicks are healthy. Keep positive. Good luck.

Thanks. I am worried but we will see...darn it. I wish I had checked sooner! I was out working in the yard!

I wouldn't stress to much. On day 2 you could probably put them in the fridge for 8 hrs and still have a reasonable hatch rate. Mother nature did a good job designing the egg/chick to survive the cold I guess in case a hen had to leave a nest. Hot on the other hand was never in mother natures design so 103-104 internal temp and its all over.

78 I wouldn't even class as cold. Just adjust the hatch date forward 12hours and you should be ok.

I hope so. Thankfully it was a warm day here so I think the bedroom was around 80 most of the day. I hope so. I was quite worried. Actually I had 12 that were put in later so not even 24 hrs. The others were getting close to day 3. Hope they hatch decent at least. Being shipped eggs if I get around 1/2 I will be happy. My incubator took awhile to get the hot and cold spots regulated and each end was running about a degree off from eachother. I have a couple thermometors in it as the fan is not great so I try not to open too much. Going to resist looking at the eggs until this weekend. Actually the new power cord seems to work much better anyways and strangely the temps are closer to the incubator read and the two temp gauges I added.

checked the eggs and gpop1 you were right most of the eggs are fine and are developing well. These are shipped eggs and it looks like a good 70% look fine! Hopefully just a slightly delayed hatch

Well at day 10 I last candled. I candle again tonight to see but the shipped seramas had 8 out of 12 good. Tossed the bad ones. I also had a 24 set of shipped silkies. I have 17 good ones left of those and a set of 12 silkies that had just been set the day before and 10 of those were good. Most of the bad ones had bad air sacs and did not develop. I actually had some with bad air sacs developing so we will see how they look today. Trying to only candle when necessary to check. I do not think the temps so far affected them badly due to being so early in incubation. Bad eggs mostly seemed to be related to shipping issues. I will be hatching them in egg cartons this time with the bottom cut out in hopes of helping ones with air sac issues. Should have them hatching by next week this time.
