Ever growing flock! 32sq. ft. too small and now 64 sq ft. seems to small! How do you keep adding for

Put some fake eggs in those boxes or mark some real eggs and leave them in the unused boxes. Chickens don't think an empty box is any good HAHA

I can hang it from the ceiling but I wonder if one of the BOs will still try to sleep on it and poo all over the water

It looks like the 3 gallon heated drinker I have. I don't think it would be big enough to sleep on, but if they do, fit an old aluminum pie plate onto the chain so it will wobble if thet try..

My RIR can peck pretty hard. She's the only one that gets mad if I try to take eggs from under her while she's in the box laying. The others either don't care of they run away. She yells at me and pecks lol. She's also my head hen though so she's a bit more bossy and territorial.
Our RIR practically ripped the comb half off of one of our sex-links when they were both wanting to use the one nest that all 18 hens like to use. I think she was just in a bad modd because normally she's bossy but not THAT bossy! There are nesting boxes but they don't like them. That means bigger nesting boxes in the new coop for us. Our current nesting boxes were from a coop we tore down at the neighbors to rebuild as a goat shed. We had a broody hen through September and she tried to rip the back off of my daughter's hand when we were candling the eggs. Needless to say, I took over pulling the eggs out.

As for the flooring for the coop, we've been happy using just a dirt floor. We've got dirt floors in our coop and the goat shed. We tried deep litter for the chickens this winter and it's seemed to work pretty well. For the goats it's been awesome but I'm not looking forward to shoveling it all out now that it's spring and time to clean them both!
