So upset....classroom incubator and I can't get ahold of teacher

Ok.....trying this again....


Long story short, I have an incubator in my daughter's kindy class. I paid for and provided all the supplies. The teacher has been monitoring the temp and humidity and I've been in and out candling and checking on things.

We have been communicating very well in person and through email. Last week when I came in and candled, I mentioned needing to come back today or tomorrow to facilitate lock down.

Well I've sent her three emails and gotten no response. The kids didn't have school today, but she told me getting in the school when it's closed wouldn't be a problem.

Now I can't get a response for her and if I can't, then lockdown won't happen until day 20.

I'm so frustrated because up until now it's been great. But now I can't candle, adjust the heat for their growing bodies, and increase their humidity. I'm thinking this project is going south now and I'm so upset.

Poor babies...and poor kids who are so excited. Everything was looking great for these chicks to hatch. I don't think I'll ever volunteer to do this again...I hate not having control over the situation. I thought it would be a great science project for the littles...

If the chicks made it this far, they'll probably be good. Temps don't really need to be adjusted, candling really isn't a priority. If you can get in there to higher the humidity before they hatch, that would be best, but people have forgotten lockdown to find chicks in their bator. Don't get me wrong, I'd be frustrated with the teacher too, but try not to let it stress you out. Hopefully you can get in there to get humidity up.

Thanks AmyLynn. I just had to let it go...I never heard a response. I'll go in tomorrow morning and see where we're at. Hopefully getting ready for hatching!

Well the temp got up to 104 at some point over the weekend, and 12 eggs were dead or duds, but possibly 10 are good, with two pips and some rockin and rollin. So we'll see in the next two days. Today was day 18 and 20 (unfortunately a staggered hatch).

As I have read lots, many people who have lived in the city all their life don't know haw amazing little eggs are and how precise you need it to be. Some people think you can just buy eggs from a store and put them under a lightbulb! Nope. That may be why you weren't getting a response. Hope the rest of the hatching goes well for you!

Six chicks in the bator this morning! The kids are so excited! One hatched while I was there.
