Nesting boxes: On the floor or on the wall?

My RIR votes for wall. I had a nest box on the floor, and she made her way to the shelving where I store my gardening supplies, knocked everything off, including some tiles, and laid her eggs there, high up. I wondered who did that, and then I caught her in the act.

Has anyone tried the plastic ones with a sort of step on the front? The look like sideways litter boxes? I thought it would be an upgrade, and it comes off for cleaning, but my girls won't have anything to do with it. They are 7 and not really laying all that much, so I am not sure if they are boycotting because of this or just taking a break, it's been 9 days. They are not interested in elevated. So this is just a small hop off the floor.
