Having problemss with my flock. (Rooster Just died)

I will take some close up pictures of the birds and the feather loss areas and post them later. I think the feathers are plucked some from the rooster who is now not with us so his damage should grow back the other plucking is from dominate hens more than one I have witnessed this. I do see new feather growth in some of the areas. At one point I had one of the hens isolated to regrow her feathers and she plucked some of her own feathers off or a parasite got them because she developed a bald spot on one of her legs. Some of the feather loss is from areas she could not have plucked herself. I have 2 Australorps and they are both in the same condition I also have a few others missing some feathers with bald areas but nothing like the 2 Australorps.

IMO, feed older than 6 weeks is old feed. This from a poultry nutrition expert in "The Small Scale Poultry Flock" book by Harvey Ussery.

Very likely. Problem is majority of people only have a few options of where to buy locally and those suppliers buy in bulk and one Well KNOWN Farm store rarely has feed that fresh. I'm lucky to find stuff within the three month date and have seen them sell feed almost a year old! Them and one other supplier is all I have around me without driving an hour. And the other is no better unless you buy local feed which is limited in type. The name brands? Forget it. That stuff is months old.

This feed freshness is the reason I keep a supply of vitamin mix for their water handy and they get it on a regular basis.

I was looking at my bag of starter the other day. It was manufactured in April of last year.
