partridge cochin chicks dying!!! HELP

@KristinaB I've never use more than 125w in my brooder in the 45*F garage, also make sure the thermometer is right under the bulb on the floor. It gives accurate reading that way, and make sure you can raise or lower the bulb accordingly to get the right temp. Like what other said they should be able to get in & out of warm zone, I used to brood in those containers until last year using grill or furniture boxes

(thanks to chicken chicks article) they work better able to expand/add another box when needed.

For a temporary brooder (if you plan on only raising chicks once a year) a wardrobe box from U Haul is perfect for groups of 10 or less. And I'd get them out of the house and out in a garage, basement, or other unheated spot so that they can be hardened off and outdoors in their coop sooner.
They double in size each week, so they outgrow storage tubs and pet crates quickly.

I have a screened in porch that I can put them out on. How soon should I put them out there?

You did your best and you fixed it as soon as you knew what to try, you are a good chicken parent in my book ^_^
