my hen will get on the roost and start twisting it around and then stretching it out. i have never had a chicken to do this. i don't know what to do. she has been doing it for about a month. she is eating and drinking fine. please help!

I would isolate her and put her in a dog kennel with a blanket over top asap.Put a dog bowl dish in there.Marbles can be put in there to prevent drowning. It sounds like she has Wry neck which is usually caused by a vitamin e deficiency or a head trauma.I would try straightening the neck often with your hand.Foods high in vitamins E includes eggs and tuna and sunflower seeds any of those will help her.If you can pick up vitamin packs for poultry at a local feed store that would be great.Does she do this during the day?It could definitely be a head trauma.Only occurring at night when the other chickens are pecking at her in the head.

If it's been caused by a nutrient deficiency, it could be several weeks till she starts to show signs of improvement. If it's an injury, she might get better, or she could get worse. If it's being caused by a toxin, the prognosis is not good.
