Hello all we're excited about this new adventure!!
We live in a small town outside of Albuquerque New Mexico one third of our backyard is sand is that going to be ok for the chickens or do I have to buy a certain kind of sad for them?
Also next question is how long do I leave brand new pullets outside for the first time?
I'm sure I'll be asking plenty of questions along the way.

! Happy you joined our community! I think sand is sand when it comes to chickens. If you are new to the chicken lifestyle you can check out some informative articles in the Learning Center here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
And if you want to chat with some fellow NM poultry folks, find your state thread in the link below and say howdy!

Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC!!

Welcome!

As you have already received links to some great starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

When I had my flock in FL, our acreage was almost all sand and the birds were fine. I don't think you'll have any problems with your yard.

Thanks for joining us!
