I first got chickens last year in May. They were all less than a year around 7 months,mixed games. We had to catch them because they were wild and the people didnt want them running around loose in their neighborhood. We ended up with two roosters and three hens. And thats where it all began.(cue epic music) lol, but now I have 33 chickens yay. I love them all to death.

I started raising chickens last year in April. My grandfather used to raise cochin bantams and really loved the different colors and spunky attitudes of these birds. He sadly passed away in the winter of 2015. I decided to keep his hobby going and purchased cochin bantams from Murray McMurray. I got the chicks and grew them up and built my own coop. We have 10 hens and 2 roosters all sorts of different colors. Since then my little operation has grown to 10 hens 2 roosters 4 guinea hens 8 bantam chicks growing out right now, 2 ducks and 2 more on the way today. I also have 22 eggs in the incubator ready for lockdown when I get home. I also have plans to get turkeys in April and building a coop for them now. I'm glad I picked up this hobby and am glad I can keep my grandfathers happy hobby alive.
 
I really appreciate your story and sorry for your grandfather. Nice little bunch you have. At the moment I only have chickens but Im planning to get a goose or two. I wouldve never thought that I would be raising chickens before last year. Im glad I took this hobby, Ive learned so much from it and gained as well. Goodluck with your flock.

About 5 years ago I decided to get Chickens...My family has always raised meat Birds...I told my Husband I was getting Chickens....Hence my profile name "chickens really"....lol....I got them on my Birthday..All 15 little Chicks....It took a lot longer to convert our shed into a Coop..;)..15 , 6 week old Birds in my house ....The dust was unbearable....They stunk.....:(


My Husband asks everyone what came first ? The Chicken or the egg?.....He always says the Coop!....lol.....;)
