Hatching troubles

Sorry to hijack your post but I need help please.Ok so my hen has been sitting on 3eggs for over 22 days now,I added two extra eggs a week or so ago. Yesterday I noticed she was out having a feed so I quickly went down to check her nest one egg had hatched a developed chick but it looked like it had been squished so I removed it and noticed another egg had a crack in it so I decided to take two inside to candle and incubate and leave two for her :) I candled them and one is more developed than the other but they are both looking good and moving! My question is should I lock them down straight away or start turning them and candle them again tomorrow? I've googled pics of eggs at 15days and one looks the same but the other one looks around 13 days! Sorry I forgot to add the two eggs I took away were the two I added later on I hope this all makes sence lol ;-P
No sense having the turner in for a couple of days. I would hand turn for a couple of days and then leave them still . The reason I say this is because they have been under the hen and she was turning them sooooo they should stay as they were .I hope you did that . good luck .

I don't have a turner lol I do it by hand ;-) I'm going to candle them again tonight and then maybe lock them down tomorrow :) Thanks heaps for the advise!

I'd say rescue time! I had the same happen to me I rescued them as long as you don't see blood your ok just be careful and assist them they can get stuck and die. Just lightly remove the shell and try to get as much off as possible I had one that looked like a tank after I released her I worked a day with her and finally freed her except for the stick membrane that came off naturally and now she's as healthy as the others but has the name tank

Thanks and just what I did after this post. Couldn't wait and glad I didn't. Was a mess and took a long time to get off all the membrane stuck their lil bodies. Both survived but one is having a horrible time walking so I put shoes on for the curled toes and braces for splayed legs and hoping that fixes her. Such a sweetheart and don't think I have the heart to put her or any animal down. I would rather make her a house chicken and hand feed her lol. Being a first timer I hope I don't go thru this with anymore. still have 16 to go and I hope this is a isolated incident.

Nope happens all the time but it's a loving challange to hatch I had my issues with my first hatch but then I knew a little better the next time and now I'm on 48 eggs for the Easter hatch and actually looking forward to seeing the first two little eyes asking if I'm their mama. I end up with one overall favorite from each bunch !

Its the worst part of hatching and no matter how many times you cull a chick it never gets better . I have not had much success with curled toes but others have saved many doing sandals. I have seen that chicks with splayed legs have a much easier time walking and getting up on the rubber self liner that I use in the hatching trays . After about a week on that they do ok . It won't hurt them to use warm distilled water to soak away the gunk from a sticky hatch . I have put them in very warm water up to their neck for a quick soak . But should be done under a heat lamp so the chick doesn't get chilled .
