Hello! So we had our Muscovy ducks lay a clutch in the nesting box in February and we let it go seeing where things went. She sat for nearly 3 weeks and jumped ship. I cracked an egg and it had barely a spot on it and I assume it got too cold and nothing was growing so we got rid of those eggs. :( Last year a Muscovy mama built her own nest in the ground inside the coop..we have a barn with dirt floor and she just dug a hole and covered it in down and we hatched 8 ducklings. If they're laying in a nesting box now with a wood bottom, should we add enough nesting material to make basically a hole?? It seems as even with straw and down the eggs get pushed out and around her rather than under her. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

I keep at least 6-8" of bedding in my duck houses my Muscovy's just go in and make an indention then lay. Add more bedding and let the broody make her nest. She usually knows what to do with the eggs too so if you see any out and around her she probably did it to cool them down.
