need advice on ventilation

along the back and side, the ground is wet in the barn. there is a slight slope to the land behind it so the water runs right down. what should i do to mitigate this. i was thinking digging a trench outside and diverting it away and filling w gravel
Excellent idea, you definitely don't want runoff seeping into the coop area.

Trench/swale and/or a berm could help a lot.

I have a trench for run off going thru part of my yard, it's not filled with anything...I think it works better this way when the ground is frozen.
Grass grows in it, I mow it very short, and occasionally have to shovel/rake dirt/leaves out of it...and maybe pull some big weeds.
Filling it with gravel would be work, might lighten the more frequent maintenance, but could also fill with silt and be much harder to redo.
I would suggest digging a shallow trench where you think it's needed then watch the area during a heavy rain to see if more might be needed.

So I whitewashed the inside of tge barn over a week ago. it dried nicely. but i went out early this morning and the walls looked like they were in the middle od drying. so obviously there was condensation accumulating in there! i had left the door open overnight. do i just need more ventilation?

Probably...but:
-did you add more windows and open eaves?
-did you fix run off problem?
-is ground in barn damp?
-are other surfaces of things inside barn damp from condensation?

It could be just because of the change in seasons.
I get condensation in garage because it's much cooler in there,
and when the warm humid spring air hits the cool floor condensation forms.
