Hi,
I have 4 pekin ducks one of them is laying eggs. I have built a home made incubator and started to incubate 3 eggs only one of which is fertile and developing properly. I am 8 days in to incubation. Will the duckling be ok on its own with no other ducklings and also at what age will it be ready to join its mother and the other 3 ducks? should i start to incubate more eggs now so the duckling has a friend evan though it will hatch some 8 days after or is that unnecessary?

! Great to have you in our flock! I'm unsure about ducklings but you might consider posting in the Ducks Forum here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks
They may be able to help you out. Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC!

Welcome to BYC! It's great to have you.

It's really ideal for all poultry to be raised alongside at least one other of their species. I would try to hatch some more, yes, or just purchase a duckling when this one hatches.

If I recall, ducks grow quite quickly. I imagine it can be added in with the adult birds at around 8-10 weeks. (Some one double check me on this, I haven't raised ducks from babies in a few years.)

Hi and welcome to BYC - you have some great advice and links already so I'll just say hello!

I'd check with the duck forum members to get their input but what QueenMisha says makes good sense.

Best of luck to you!
