Hello, I am a new member here. I have 7 guinea fowl. I just got them last year and this is my first time raising anything other than a dog! I just found my first egg today! I don't have an incubator and I am wondering if I leave the egg in the nest (located inside the hen house) will my hen hatch the egg? Thanks for the advise! I am looking forward to being part of this group!

! Pleased you joined our flock! If the guinea is broody I am sure it will hatch the eggs. When you say hen - do you mean a guinea hen or a chicken hen? A broody chicken will also hatch out eggs of other species if you place them under her. Here's a link to the Guinea Forum: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/45/guinea-fowl
Maybe the folks there will have some hatching advice. Good luck and thanks for joining BYC!!

The egg probably won't hatch unless you have a broody hen, you should look up broody hen on the internet so you more info. if you have a rooster it might be fertile but if a hen hasn't sat on in over 48 hours it probably wont hach. if you do chose to raise chicks weight in till your hens have laid multiple eggs. good luck and

Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
