My husband has not reached that point. But he does spend a lot of time on BYC and his post count is probably higher than mine! He talks the technical side of incubators and caged birds more than chickens, but he does read a lot of posts.

It's all in the personalities, my wife is not really into pets or animals, I'm the husband, I don't read hints neither, I told my wife am a simple man, she has to flat out tell me things.

I'm the one that took home 10 chicks on an impulse buy 4 years ago for my kids. I didn't know a squat about chickens, or building a coop since we both grew up in big cities. I made a promise that she will be impressed after, I researched, designed and build our own coop, I've chosen all the breeds of hens with her approval on egg colors and productivity later on (we have 11 different breeds) 20++ hens.

I involved our friends, her friends, & coworkers and family in liking our eggs(we did taste tests, my little evil plot lol) and buying them from us, therefore our hens paid for their coop and their feeds. (She couldn't complain about that) I maintain and clean the coop everyday (15-20 min chores) all she does is collect eggs & admire the beautiful well maintained hens, I do all the dirty job, I think she enjoy what I enjoy as long as she's not walking in a foot of snow, shoveling the run or scooping poop from the coop which I don't mind at all.

This is what I think as well. Less work and more play lol. Of coarse i do most the work anyways lol.

Started out, Honey was not interested at all in the birds. He'd build pens when I needed, he'd butcher cockerels for me, he'd help me when I needed. But as far as enjoying the birds? Not so much.

Last few years---he'd be cutting firewood and find a mess of grubs or something in the wood. He'd stop what he was doing, find a container, and put the grubs in for the chickens.

He'll be cleaning the stalls and find a bunch of red worms. He'll pick them up and carry them to the pens and feed them to the hens.

He really liked "That stately looking black and white hen with the feathered feet", my Brahma Momma. So, I bought 4 light Brahma chicks this year. 3 died

but one is hanging on!

He started asking about a friend's "pretty spotted hen"...finally figured it was a Speckled Sussex. I've had them before and not really thrilled, but was buying some Delawares and they had a SS for sale. I bought her for Honey.

He's still not "interested", really, but he's come to enjoy them more. He's built pens, incubators, grow out pens, etc. He wants me to be happy

.

Then again, when he starts talking guns or fishing....I want him to be happy, but I'm not "interested" either. To me that's a perfectly acceptable marriage, having different hobbies and interests.

Speaking as a guy. I like turkeys much better than chickens. Turkeys are delicious and I enjoy having a big stuffed Tom on the Thanksgiving table, that I raised and and processed myself. It's grown into a family tradition...

Sure chickens are ok but Turkeys rock! Maybe see if your husband wouldn't be interested in raising a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. That's how I got hooked.
