Hi Everyone, my name is Brady and live in MN. We purchased a house that came with a coop and five chickens. One leghorn, australorp, two Rhode Island Reds, and a large hen I cannot identify that I put on the identification page. Since we moved in two years ago, my large unknown is the only original one remaining and doing very well.
We did not know the ages of the birds when we got here but only one was laying eggs and over the course of last year the birds were fine one day and then just laying down motionless the next and passed away. I think they were just old or had some heart failure (Is this normal). I also got four leghorns and 3 silver laced wyandottes (full grown) this last year and they are thriving very well.
This is all new to me and I do my best to keep the coop clean, gave them an extended back yard by moving their fences and plan to give them more of a jungle gym inside and outside the coop to hop around on. They also get plenty of treats too and scratch grains. I am also getting four chicks, 2 reds and 2 barred rocks in a couple weeks. Excited to try and raise them but very nervous. Look forward to speaking and sharing ideas.
