I have a brooder with several chicks in it of varying ages, but one chick seems to not be feathering out or growing. *head scratch*

(I hope) SHE has feathers coming in on her wing tips only, and has barely grown since I got her at 2 days old, though she runs around, chirps, fights when I pick her up, eats and drinks on her own and muscles past the much larger chicks to snatch dried meal worms when I give them treats.

She is nearly 2 weeks old now and I just don't understand why she seems so runty. She is a blue orpington mix (we weren't sure what the roo is - he looks like a black maran but with a barred tail). Both parents are lf.

Should I give her nutridrench? I had put some in the water for all the chicks for 2 days a few days ago, but it was a very small amount. Maybe she needs an individual dose? She seems happy and healthy besides the size and feathering issue!

I'd give her straight Nutri Drench daily and maybe offer her some extra protein in the form of scrambled eggs or meal worms, just to make sure she's not deficient. She sounds healthy though!

OP, black and chocolate orpingtons often feather later than other orpingtons. For example, I have a couple of eight-week chocolate orp cockerels right now who are just starting to get in their feathers. My other cockerels from the brood are already fully feathered. I also have some four-week blue/black/splash and buff orpingtons. The bbs orps and much farther behind in feather development than the buffs.

My suggesting is just be patient for now. Best of luck.

Thank you all for your replies! She does get meal worms, in fact she steals them right out of the bigger birds' mouths when I give them all a little handful, which is hilarious. She's small enough to get right under their chins and snatch, lol.

Thanks for the dosage info with the nutridrench!

I didn't know orps could be slow to feather, so that is good news. I will be patient with her. Thanks again!
