Hello everyone! I'm a newbie chicken owner and currently have 2 chicks (Buff Orpington and an Americauna) about 5 weeks old.I live in Southern California and the chicks sleep in a brooder in the house (house stays about 70). I have removed the heat lamp entirely 3 days ago and it does get very dark now at night. Chicks have been noisy just before going to sleep and try to go under each other and try to go under the food container ( it's hanging 3 inches above the floor of the brooder) I have been putting my hand in the brooder thinking I can calm them by putting my hand on them gently or pet them. It works and they quiet down and go to sleep albeit partially under the food container. I'm thinking it's because there's a change around their brooder and they are scared? Will they get used to their change or is there another reason for their behavior? Thank you in advance for any insight.
