What Coturnix colors do you keep? Breeding?

So we have our first batch of birds out in the pens (hens and a single roo in the hen house/laying pen, excess roos stashed in a breeding pen/bachelor pad pending a cull) and have a second batch of 3 day old chicks in the brooder. The first batch is mostly browns, with a couple of Texas A&Ms and a rosetta in the mix. The new batch is 1/3 browns, 2/3 Texas A&Ms. For now we are set, but I am really taken with some of the color variants I have seen, especially the Tibetans and the Rosettas. My understanding is that a Rosetta is a cross between a Tibetan and a white (including A&M), so it seems like if we eventually hatch up some Tibetans we would be able to easily have A&Ms, Browns, Rosettas and A&Ms without much trouble. I know there are a bunch of other color patterns, so before I jump on the Tibetans I thought I would ask opinions on different flavors of coturnix.

What color patterns do you keep? Aside from their color, what positive or negative characteristics do the various types have? Is there much difference aside from color? If you keep multiple colors, do you try to keep the lines pure, let them mix as they will, do something else when you breed them?

We have a main layer house and a separate breeding pen, so pulling birds for the express purpose of getting specific fertilized eggs of a particular breed would not be logistically problematic.

I have several colors and mixed colors currently, but I am in the process of setting up color specific pens for le Creme, Lavender, Egyptian and some odd project with no name. I'll probably also keep pharaoh and possibly Italian.

Your white is possibly English White.

I do believe that is the term for standard size (not jumbo) whites.
I thought english white's were supposed to be, well, white? Lol

I have Tibetan, I love them. They are said to be more aggressive, but have not seen that at all. My females are actually quite sweet, my male is just a spaz. I have actually become obsessed with quail, and plan on expanding to 4-5 more breeds, or variations of Coturnix.

Rosetta is a mix of gold/italian and tibetan. I too love the Rosettas. I have mixed pens and one has a Rosetta Roo but I haven't got any Rosettas from him (he has a gold italian girl and a tibetan girl with a small patch of white). My Rosetta babies have come from my gold based white Roo and Tibetan Hen. They all have some degree of tuxedo. I can't wait for them to grow up. Hopefully there's a girl in there that I can match up with my Rosetta boy.

There is a genetic calculator for Japanese quail but I didn't find it very accurate when I plugged in my colour combos.

Here's one of my Barred Rosetta babies - they are just over a week old.

I'm studying quail genetics, and while I don't personally deal with any whites, I am fairly certain in English Whites occasionally having spots as well.

Rosetta is just a single copy of extended brown (the gene that makes Tibetan). it can also come from manchurian or pharaoh bred to Tibetan.

This is my le Creme cock. I have him with a le Creme hen and some Egyptian hens to breed more Creme.

This is my weird powder blue with blue eyes.

This is a lavender rosetta. Possible Creme rosetta.

I've noticed my gold based whites have blue eyes too. sammijane - your birds are beautiful. There are no blue/lavender quail where I live (New Zealand) so I just have to admire yours from afar. They are very pretty.
