One of our 2.5 week-old chicks died! Inexplicably. It looks like she just went to sleep. Should I be worried for the rest? (They just went into a bigger brooder and have a habit of jumping fast - I wonder if she whacked into the wall? She was pressed right up to it, head turned back as if asleep.)

are they showing any other symptoms? like pasty butt, lethargic, fluffed up, blood in poop, etc??

No, and she seemed fine, too. Energetic, eating/drinking, no pasty butt or odd poop. They are starting to lay down with one wing open - is that normal?
could be over heating, what is their brooder temperature at?
can you post a photo of the set up?

temp is 90 under the light, which is about 18" up. Away from light is 78 degrees. Sides are chicken wire and they are in our house. They don't seem hot... they lie down with wings up right under the light.

2-3 weeks old is to have 90*, they probably had a 90* spot while at the store, over the next day or so reduce by another 5*, then over the next week another 5*, they should be around 80* now

i would even grab a piece of wood or cardboard and put it across the middle with a small doorway so that the side with food/water is even cooler but they can go back and forth as they want

ETA: i see the water is under the bulb, move the water to the other side, away from the heat

Thank you! I raised the lamp up a bit. I'll rig it higher still tomorrow. The back of the enclosure is beneath a roof and is about 75 degrees, so I moved the food and water there. They sleep there sometimes, and sometimes come soak up some heat. So far, everyone else seems okay!
