i am a total newby
and so I decided to use two incubators and two types of quail
harlequin and standard coturnix quail. mixed in both incubators.
the janoel incubator sits at 37;7 c BUT the humidity fluctuates Sometimes wildly!
The big yellow unpredictable incubator, can not reach a temp of 37;7 c and sits around 37;5/6 But maintains a humid of 55 constantly!
we are 10 days from lock down, so if anyone is interested I will post the results.
Thank you for all the information from this site

I don't raise quail, and I use a Styrofoam Hova-Bator, but I'd be interested to hear how your hatch goes. Might be an interesting experiment into humidity vs. temperature accuracy and how well they hatch out. Good luck!

I don't use either bator you use.

But I've hatched quail in lgs, brinseas, reptipros, and 1588s.

So far quail are about the easiest and most forgiving to hatch.

Are they temps and humidity secondarily verified with accurate instruments.

I usually dry incubate. So unless humidity goes below 20 I don't worry about it much. I raise it 70 plus to hatch.

I will take accurate temp over humidity accuracy any day.

I'm running a brinsea and a 1502 cabinet right now. Humidity on the brinsea is reading 38. The 1502 is reading 26. Both in same room 15 feet apart. So even in a couple of higher priced bators the humidity Readings can be off.

But good luck on your upcoming hatch

yes I'm double checking both temp and humid readings.

the internal humid reading in the big yellow is showing 62-64 external reading is showing 53

so I am very pleased you don't worry too much about humidity

the independent temp readings on both bators are showing the same as the external readings

Good deal on double checking the incubator readings.

I don't worry about humidity as long as it doesn't get too high. I have more issues with higher humidity for incubating than I do if it's too dry. It's easier to slow down eggs moisture loss than it is to speed it up.

Keep us posted

There seems to be a lot of discussion about mealworms and garlic water. although in different threads, yes?
Is it a viable option to re-hydrate dried mealworms in garlic water for week old chicks?
possible?

Honestly I wouldn't know where to start builing my own incubator. but I am having real problems keeping the humidity levels even in the Janoel. So I'm thinking when we go into lockdown on Friday, I will put all the eggs into the big yellow unpredictable. Although if I put 150ml water into the Janoel it shoots up very high around 95percent and stays there for quite a while, around 5 days!
What do you guys think?
