April Hatch Along

I have these eggs in an incubator they have about 6.5 days left. day 15. They are from a healthfood store fridge, but the farm is near by. (hr away) Candled these all aircells were great and no cracks going in incubator...Mystery eggs.

Below is from The same healthfood store fridge (I have hatched from them before.) These eggs are from a farm one mile away. Last hatch from hers last year was 16/20. I think they have 3 roos on I don't know how many hens, the dads are EE I think, the white is spitz. Mystery eggs. They will go in tonight.

These look good, but one to far right green has a loose aircell all the others look good. The top brown 6 are huge, so I don't know on those, and one is ex long shape. Since they are all fertile I will just put everyone in and see that happens. I will make sure not to move the loose aircell guy. Some of the blue eggs have extra calcium crusts is that okay?

Hi everybody! I’m doing my first hatch ever and have a question. When exactly should I begin lockdown? At the start of day 18? Or when it has been a full completed 18 days? Or somewhere in the middle of the 18th day? The 18th day began today at noon... When should I candle and do everything else for lockdown? Thanks!

You sound like a new mom. I am on day 20, I did start a lockdown on day 18-19, I think I candled on day 17, just don't play with them when you start a lockdown, and especially leave'm alone when they start to hatch. when you see the first pip, DON'T jump in and try to help. Even if nothing happens after the first pip 24 hrs. I will not help til day 22. and when counting days, start the count one day after first setting eggs not the day you set.

For context, I'm extra paranoid about these eggs because they've had a rough start in life and the odds are stacked against them. They're shipped eggs and have flown coast to coast. Their air cells look terrible. So I know I'm dealing with a tricky situation and my hatch rate will be low, that's why I want to eliminate any additional complications and do it right, to increase my odds. There will be 14 hours between when I'm able to candle/lockdown tonight and when I'll be able to get to them tomorrow, and that's a long time... So I'm trying to figure out if it's better to do it a little early or a little late. If these were my eggs, or from a nearby farm that's driving distance, I wouldn't have been as freaked out.
