To leave the turner in or take it out

So after 19 days should you remove the turner and place the eggs on the wire mesh at the bottom of the incubator? What do you do and why?

I take the eggs off the turner and place them on their sides on day 18 (some people do it on day 19). This is so that the chicks can get into proper position to hatch. In addition, in some incubator models the turner can actually hurt hatchlings if it's left in there while they're hatching.

If you haven't already perused it, there's a wealth of information about incubating eggs in the Learning Center: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-and-raising-chicks.

It really depends on what kind of turner you have. I have an Incuturn egg turner in my incubator. It doesn't need to be removed. When it is turned off, it just becomes part of the floor. If you have a turner that stands the eggs up and rocks them side-to-side, you'll want to remove it since it becomes a hazard for the newly hatched chicks to try to navigate over.
