Silkie being bullied

I have seen a video of a lady that thought the silkie was her soul mate. She took him on car rides, to the pool, the store, etc...I laughed when I saw it and having a silkie now, I actually think they make pretty good inside pets. I don't think you're nuts, but I did laugh at the thought of the chicken diaper and the video I saw..

Haha, thats hilarious...i don't think he was my soul mate, just a close friend lol. Yes, silkies are so friendly...i think they actually enjoy being with humans, compared to most chickens who just want you for the food you bring. Yes, is is funny to see him waddling around with a diaper. I had to design so for him cause his shoulders were practically non-existent so a normal one just fell off.

Adorable!!!!!!!
Thanks!

He is adorable! Just what I need is a house chicken.
Thanks!! Haha, i think i've found my people. Ones who loves house chickens

I wish I could remember the video..it was on you tube and was part of a chicken video. They talked about different breeds, etc.

Thanks!! I think you are officially the first person who hasn't thought i am nuts for doing it :)

Haha, he was a rooster, and for some reason he was more confident around the dogs (2 big 1 small) than around chickens...weird little guy.

He even slept on my bed with me and the little dog at night.
How does the chicken diaper work? Does it stay on well? I'll have a look online for one, because I have a sweet little silkie chicken who is sadly an outcast of the flock of 2 hens and 1 roo. She loves being right by any humans side, and she doesn't go up into the coop with the others at dusk, I have to go out every night and put her in there and it's becoming very inconvient. So I'm thinking she might just live inside with me! 😂🤔💭 A chicken diaper you say.....

Awe, poor girl! Sometimes chickens can be so mean to each other! Drives me crazy lol. I wish everyone would just live peacefully!

It worked great for me! I wish I had a picture of the ones I made, they were pretty simple...something like this (found this pic online). I made them out of scrap material, elastic, and some velcro! Its been a few years, but I can't remember ever having it leak on me, or fall off and I've used diapers on 2 separate roosters! I had a few layers of cloth in the poop part to help keep the liquid inside. I've also seen people use feminine hygiene pads inside, which is quite smart...that would make cleanup a breeze!

You definitely want more than 1, I had 3-4 so I could change it as often as needed. I just hand washed and then hung to dry.

I also recommend having a place where she can be without the diaper. During the day if it was nice out I had a little pen for my guys on the grass so they could just be chickens scratching and finding bugs! And inside I had a little dog kennel set up that I could put them in with a roost and such.

It was fun having a house chicken, you really bond with them in a different way than chickens in the yard! It's a bit of work too, but wasn't really anymore work than a dog or cat haha. I think one of the funnest things I did was take that little guy to pet stores and stuff. He would just ride on my shoulder like a little falcon, and got lots of attention from shoppers! Good times...

Good luck with your little girl!! She sounds sweet, and I know she's lucky to have such a loving human parent :)

Thanks so much for your reply! :)

Yes they can be so mean, they are still being so mean to her, chasing her to give her a peck! :'( it's so haartbreaking to see her as the poor little loner outcast chicken she is. She's so much happier and active when I'm there, talks to me, comes up to me and scratches and pecks around at my feet. I know she must feel safe and have company. Compared to just sitting or sleeping in the coop or a corner by herself when I'm not there ( I have lots of cameras everywhere 😂)
My crafty sewing aunty came around the other day and measured her up, so just waiting for them to be made and then we're on! Maggi will be an inside/outside chicken just in time for winter, that'll teach the others! 😂
I still find her outside the coop every night when the others are up there asleep, she's in random places in my yard, sometimes just out in the open! I worry maybe she's a bit brain damaged?! 😂
I might even start taking her out and about with me too! 🤔😂🐥💃👩‍🦽

Of course!

Awe, poor baby! sounds like she loves her human though! I adore it when a bird chooses to hang out and actually cares about me...I have a lot of birds, an most like me, but don't really want pets...but I have a turkey hen that adores me, and comes running and lays down next to me until I pet her. So cute!! I have actually been hoping to get some silkie chicks this spring...I need me some fuffy cuddle chickens! 😂

Oh, cameras! Now that I a fantastic idea...now you really know whats going on behind closed doors.

That's nice of your aunt to help! Maggi is gonna be stoked I bet!

Ok, that is weird...usually they will at least try to get up high! haha...she might just be missing a brain cell or two...

Well good luck with her! I hope everything works out for little Maggi :)
