We took in 2 peas from a hotel. They'd been hand raised, very friendly, very calm birds. Would eat out of hands.

We'd had them locked in for a week when the latch on the aviary was left open by a kid and they escaped without a trace. Our nearest neighbours are about 2 miles away, it's just fields and forests between us and anything else. The original hotel is about 12 miles on the other side of a small mountain.

Is there any hope of getting them back? Any where specific we could be looking or doing? I feel sick about it.

They might come back. They like to wander. We co-own a peacock with someone. Sometimes he is in our yard, roosts in a tree above our chicken coop, we feed him. He is around for a few weeks then he goes wandering and we hear him across a fish farm for a few weeks ... then he comes back. Lol. We take care of him when he's with us. He just has a large territory.

Quote: Well that is good, as we have a small holding with about 30 birds and the nearest other poultry is about 2 miles away. There are pheasants about, so we've been checking the runs to see if they have headed that way.

It's time to send them a message:

The you tube clip worked!! They came back! They wouldn't go in the barn, but I wasn't really expecting that. However, they happily ate their corn at our feet, puttered around the garden and have roosted for the night in out big ash tree! I am so so relieved!!

We don't know if we should try to re catch them and lock them up again or just let them free range from here on in. They plan was to free range them eventually anyway.

Thank you all so much for your help!
