There can be many causes - getting some dust/debris in the eye, some type of wound/insect bite, bacterial infection (like e.coli) or illness. Watery/bubbly eyes are sometimes an indication of respiratory illness, but without having a swab tested by a vet, there's no way to know the exact cause. The hen seems to be doing fine except that she still seems to be rubbing that right eye and tends to close the lid. Her sight is about 90% and she can easily eat feed but does have a hard time focusing on small items if fed by hand. Does anyone have any thoughts on the eyelid closing. I thought about maybe a daily eye flush with tylan and water for several days but not even sure it's infected. It does look a little watery but maybe that is due to something else..........thanks.
You can try flushing the eye with saline and apply some Vetericyn eye gel or Terramycin eye ointment. @Eggcessive has used triple antibiotic ointment (plain Neosporin) in the eyes as well. Whatever you can find and are comfortable using.
The slow closing could be from when she was really sick - I'm not sure what happened there, it did look somewhat neurological to me - she may have suffered a mild stroke(?) and is slowly adapting.
I'm glad to hear she is able to find her food, she has really made a great improvement.
Keep us posted.
