I was curious if anyone used peat moss in their coop and if so, how long do you have to let it set and mellow before applying the moss to the lawn/garden?
I'm thinking the lawn (fescue) could probably handle it within a reasonable time, the garden, heh, yeah.

I'm thinking they will love to dust bathe in it, but they will kick it up into a fine dust that will cover everything, and be hard on their lungs in all of the scratching and digging they do. If one had a covered poo bin under the roosts with a good bed of peat, I'm wondering if you could populate it with red worms for a perpetual poo eating system.

Yeah, it's been on the floor of the brooder since the start. It absolutely kicks up a fine dust everywhere too. I'd considered keeping the moss on the floor changing it occasionally, but the dust problem you mentioned bothers me. May go to cedar chips or something along those lines.
I reeeeally want the manure moss on my lawn for the super green effect :)
