Hello, all!

I'm new to the boards...My wife and I are parents to 6 3 week old ducklings we purchased from TSC. They currently reside in our garage. I'm finding it near impossible to clean their bedding (newspaper & wood shavings) off the concrete. My first question is can I just put the shavings on the bare concrete and change it over daily? It's mainly the side where the water is that sticks the newspaper to the concrete.

Secondly, At what point can I discontinue the heat lamp? We live in Texas and during the day the garage already gets rather toasty. I haven't noticed them getting hot or gasping for air.

Hello! I do believe you could possibly put your wood shavings over the floor, as mine have been raised in a similar fashion over wood. You can absolutely discontinue your heat lamp if your garage is in the 70s, as most ducklings lose their heat lamp at around four weeks. Feel free to ask anything else!

Yes, I have my Brooder in my garage and have the pine shavings on my concrete floor...I use a dust pan to clean it up...I have a plastic boot mat that I put the water on....I only put the shavings on the one end that they sleep...:).....

You sure can turn off the heat lamp now...:)

Enjoy those Ducklings...:)

Hello! I too am a newbie to duck raising. We have 6 ducklings, but both of our 5 week old Pekins aren't doing too well. One has wry neck, and the other drops her wings slightly. The wry necked duckling is drinking and eating with help, and I have been giving her yeast flakes, molasses, ACV, and vitamin water every few days. I've heard you can support the neck, but I am not sure how.

We tried to wrap, with vetwrap, the other ducklings wings, but she was thrashing around so much and her head in such a strange position we took it off.

Ducks are so adorable, and I'm afraid we are doing something wrong since we have two with problems. Any help is so much appreciated! A little stressed right now, since we are so concerned about their health! They are on chicks starter/ grower. Thank you!

I do have yeast that has niacin in it. The niacin is the 2nd ingredient in the yeast flakes. They do get spinach pieces in their bath water, which I heard has some niacin in it.Should I hold off on the supplements? We really only started giving them consistently for about 2 days since we noticed the wry neck.

This isn't on their health but I do have another question.....we have the 2 Pekins at 5 weeks old, and then four other ducklings at only 3 weeks old. I read that they do not need food or water at night once they pass 3 weeks, but as of yet I still leave it out for them. But for the past 2 nights they have spilled their water and ended up crying because the brooder got wet. If I take the food/water out at night, wouldn't I need to turn off the heat lamp so they don't wander around the brooder, looking for their food?

Thank you!

No...you can take it away for the night..Both food and water..:)....They choke without water...

Do not feed spinach to poultry...good for humans...Not Ducklings..It depletes the body of the ability to absorb calcium....:(.....

Wow. I had no idea! Thank you for letting me know about that. And about the food and water at night. I will take away both tonight, and see how it goes.

For some reasons it seems that raising chicks is a lot easier

or it's just I am trying too hard with the ducklings!
