Letting eggs sit after shipping

I've hatched shipped chicken eggs and had heard to let them set for 24 hrs before putting them in the incubator. Do I also do this with quail and do I have to wait the full 24 hrs? Would it be a shorter wait time due to faster metabolism? I was hoping to get them in the incubator before they pass the 7 day mark. They shipped Monday and are due here tomorrow, so I hope they were gathered Sunday and not Friday! These are my first quail hatch so I'm nervous all over again.
 
I put my shipped quail eggs in the incubator as soon as the arrive. Just put them big end up and don't turn them for the first two days.

What is your usual hatch rate? When I was rasing chickens a few years ago, I had 98% on my own eggs, and the few times I hatched shipped eggs it varied from 70% to 10%. The bantam eggs seemed to be more tolerant of shipping shocks the one time I had them. Wondering if small size could help the quail eggs out.

I put mine in the incubator when I receive them and wait for 24 hours before I start turning them. My last hatch I had 120 of 138 hatch, 86%. Eggs where shipped from Pennsylvania to Texas.
 
Okay, another quick question. It is hard to tell with some of the texture on the eggs and spots , but it seems like 3 are cracked, one for sure. The other two I can't tell. If I put them in there and just candle later, is there a chance they might blow up?
 
Actually only one is cracked. 3 others seem to have a deep scratch on them. Should I set them anyway? The seller sent plenty extra but my husband ordered from Pennsylvania and we are in Illinois so I fear that there may be a bunch scrambled despite the excellent packing job. Do I need to wax it or will it not matter since they don't break thru the shell?
 
If you got them from eBay, from the same guy in Pennsylvania that I ordered my last batch from, I hope you have better luck than I did. Out of 59 eggs set, 19 didn't develop at all, 28 couldn't make it out of their shells or died sometime towards the end, and only 12 hatched. We had to cull one due to severe leg deformity and only 2 of the surviving quail were female. I eggtopsied every egg that didn't hatch and it looked like a lot of them had suffered from the low humidity. I had run the incubator at ~45 until the last 5 days when I ramped it up to ~67, which was still too low for these little guys. I think they lost too much moisture during shipping.

Well, poo. I've been running low humidity because I keep finding stuff that says they hatch better with low humidity. About 35-45%. Maybe I ought to bump it up? I've got def development on 2/3 of them, but the few air cells I can see are really variable in size. Hatch date is the 8th, I'll post my results.
