Unwashed and Unchilled?

Having backyard, free range chickens is a new venture for me. I have been reading lots and getting some great advice from all over about things I can do to make my chickens happy and healthy. While researching I came across an article which states that eggs that are not washed and not chilled are actually better for us. Any feedback on this???
 
I've read you can store the unwashed eggs on your counter for 4-6 months. They must not be washed because it takes the coating off of the shell and allows bacteria to penetrate the shell faster. I personally have not tried this yet. I'm pretty new to all this. It seems like a neat concept. I have ducks and there is always poop on their eggs by morning. I hear chickens are MUCH cleaner. Haha.

I know that navigating BYC can seem a little daunting at first, but you'll get the hang of things soon enough.

Freshly laid eggs are covered in an anti-bacterial bloom so that's why i guess you have read not to wash them. Advice seems to differ, depending on location about storage. In the UK, for example it's advised that eggs are not chilled - others places, the opposite. Personally I neither clean (sure I'll wipe off any mud etc) nor chill my eggs.
