My 1st chick hatched today. But has something protruding from his/her butt. What in the world is that??

Is it coming from the vent or the abdomen?

I can't tell where it's coming from. She's still not dry so I'm scared to handle her to much. I just know it near her butt. She's walking around, chirping. Also looks like her one "toe" on her left foot is folded under her foot. She's already pooped as well.

If you gently run the chick on its back in your hand you can generally see the vent is a bit further up towards the tail.

This happened to me very recently and I panicked until I checked and could see the poop hole was clear.

I just let the yolk sac dry out by itself over a couple of days and eventually it drops off. You may want to keep it separate from the others until it is less obvious in case they peck at it.

I gather it is quite common and usually the absorption should happen inside the egg before it unzip but my case one of the other chicks was impatient to meet the other and decided to 'help' it out!

Hope this helps?

Thank you so much, she's pooping fine that's why I was thinking it was the yolk sac. She's the only one that hatched from the 3 I had. She's in her brooder box already. She eating and drinking fine!

A few of mine seemed to have the toe issue as well, but after a while it seemed to straighten out. The yolk sac, when small like that, has seemed to fix itself on a couple of mine. Unless the sac was huge...Those two died. But mine looked like yours and seemed fine. I freaked out at first. Hope all is well!

Sorry to hear about the loss of babies. Mine is doing ok this morning tried the sugar water and will feed hard boiled egg yolk when I get home from work. I hope my lil one can thrive.

You can mix raw egg yolk with water and use a syringe or dropper. I put a drop or two in the crease of my finger and put the beak in that. Takes a bit of time, but works well.
I would be giving electrolites in the water also, the same way until it's drinking/eating on it's own. If I have a chick that is not eating/drinking I do the electrolite water every 20 minutes or so.
As much as they will take.
Also this, for encouragement, it works: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/367608/how-i-help-weak-baby-chicks-to-survive-hope-it-is-helpful
I'm referring to the bandana part, though I do not sleep with mine. Had to carry one around for 2 days this spring. She's outside now, and fine as all the others.
I wish you luck.
